Marathon County has a newly signed contract in place with Ragnar for the Trail Wisconsin event at Nine Mile County Forest, county officials confirmed as of the morning of Aug. 11.
Previously we had written that Wisconsin cancelled their original contract with Ragnar which is owned and operated by FitLab.
Under the terms of the new agreement, Ragnar must submit a required advance payment to the county by Aug. 28 in order for the event to proceed. If the payment is received by the deadline, the event will continue as planned. If it is not, the county will be required to cancel the contract.
The new agreement marks a shift from the county’s previous arrangement with Ragnar. The prior contract was a three-year deal; this one is a one-year contract covering only this year’s event, with different payment terms attached. The contract is with Ragnar Events LLC, the same company that has signed the county’s previous agreements and is currently owned by FitLab.
We spoke with Marcus Aumann, assistant director of Community Services for Wausau & Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry, who said the county wants to see the event happen.
“We work with events because we think Wausau and Marathon County is an amazing place to be and to recreate, and we’ve got a lot to offer,” Aumann said. “We hope that we’re able to host this event and that they make the payment by the deadline required.”
Registration has reopened and teams of 4 can register for $1000 and teams of 8 can register for $1745. There are also options for 2 and 3 members teams that can register for about $425.00
The county says it will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
