Hybrid Fitness Media has been reporting on FitLab Inc., parent company of Ragnar, since July, including the possible cancellation of Ragnar’s Reach the Beach event in New Hampshire.

Marathon County, Wisconsin has terminated its contract with Ragnar for the 2026 Ragnar Trail Wisconsin event, according to Marcus Aumann, Assistant Director of Community Services for Wausau & Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry. The event was scheduled for September 18-19 at Nine Mile County Forest in Wausau.

The county changed its contract terms at the start of 2026 to require a larger upfront payment from Ragnar, Aumann said, after final post-event payments in recent years were delayed or required multiple follow-ups before being received. Ragnar has held its Wisconsin event at Nine Mile County Forest annually since 2016.

The county communicated with Ragnar and FitLab by email and phone beginning in mid-May 2026, providing reminders and invoices for the required advance payment, according to Aumann. The county offered multiple extensions past the original deadline, but no proof of payment was ever provided, Aumann said.

Email correspondence provided by Aumann and identified as public record shows FitLab employees acknowledged the missed payment. In a July 10, 2026 email to the county, an employee identified in his signature as “AP Manager – FitLab | Ragnar Events” wrote, “I’ll be upfront: we won’t be able to process payment today… Please know this has our full attention.”

In a July 21, 2026 email, Aumann told Ragnar and FitLab staff the missed deadline “raises significant concerns about your organization’s reliability moving forward,” noting that payment for the 2025 event was not received until March 2026, 166 days after that event concluded. “I not sure many other organizations, including Ragnar, would grant that much grace on such large financial obligations,” Aumann wrote.

The county formally terminated the contract that day, citing breach of the agreement’s payment terms. Aumann said the county has not received any communication from Ragnar or FitLab about plans to cancel, postpone, or alter this year’s event, either before or after the termination.

As of this reporting, Ragnar’s website for the Wisconsin event remains live, but registration is not open. Ragnar has not issued any public cancellation notice for the event.

FitLab CEO Brian Kirkbride has not responded to repeated requests for comment on our reporting.
