HYROX Washington DC Elite 15 Doubles Women Results: Weeks and Tafuto Set World Record

Unlike the Majors, which have three spots available, the HYROX Regionals have one spot available for the World Championships in Sweden. That means win and you are in. Otherwise, a team can qualify through a roll down if a team or teams ahead of them are already qualified.

For this race, the teams with the fastest seeding and the favorites to finish first and second were Lauren Weeks/Vivian Tafuto and Morgan Schulz/Kat Fahsbender. That meant third place was most likely to be the qualifying position.

The favorites for that third spot were veteran HYROX athletes Alandra Greenlee/Kris Rugloski and the Canadian-American team of Maria Fecik/Terra Jackson.

Greenlee would also be racing with a chip on her shoulder, as she was sidelined from the Saturday night race after a work commitment had her arrive late for a mandatory briefing.

How the Race Unfolded

Weeks and Tafuto quickly established themselves near the front of the race through the opening stations. Their SkiErg and early running splits kept them in control of the pace, and by the time the race moved through the sled stations they had begun to create separation from the rest of the field.

Behind them, the battle for the remaining podium positions developed during the early stations. Katherine Fahsbender and Morgan Schulz made their biggest move through the sled stations, posting the fastest Sled Push and Sled Pull splits in the field. That stretch of the race helped them move into second place, a position they would hold the rest of the way.

Alandra Greenlee and Kris Rugloski stayed within reach during the opening half of the race and gradually separated themselves from the rest of the chasing pack. Their steady pacing across the middle stations kept them comfortably in podium position through the back half of the race.

Further back, the race between fourth and fifth remained much tighter. Brittany McCall and Lianne Girard and the Canadian-American team of Terra Jackson and Maria Fecik traded momentum through the mid-race stations before McCall and Girard pulled clear during the lunges and final run to secure fourth place.

By the final wall ball station, the top five positions had largely settled, with Weeks and Tafuto closing out the win in 52:59.60, setting a new Elite Women’s Doubles world record and becoming the first team to break the 53-minute mark. Fahsbender and Schulz finished second, with Greenlee and Rugloski taking third and earning their spot in Sweden.

The biggest surprise of the night was the fourth-place team of Brittany McCall/Lianne Girard. They met after Lianne posted online that she was looking for someone to help her race into the Elite 15 and connected with Brittany back in December. The pair qualified in Anaheim and raced a sub-60 in Washington DC to finish fourth, ahead of several more experienced and better-known teams.

Congratulations to all who participated. Special congratulations to Brittany McCall and Lianne Girard on their amazing finish. That is no small feat for a team who just recently began competing together.
