Working documents reviewed by Hybrid Fitness Media outline a proposed new regional structure for the HYROX North America Head Judge program, including separate Core Head Judge and Event Head Judge roles with different pay, travel coverage, and scheduling requirements.

A HYROX representative told Hybrid Fitness Media that the program remains a work in progress and has not been completely finalized. The details below reflect the documents reviewed by Hybrid Fitness Media and may change.

Under the proposed structure, each of the four regions, West Coast, East Coast, Central, and Canada, would maintain its own roster of Head Judges built around the two roles.

Core Head Judges would serve as a traveling group within each region and commit to working an entire event. Event Head Judges would be local or regional judges supporting events on a shift-by-shift basis.

Every Head Judge would be aligned with the region where they are based. Judges who regularly travel to or work in multiple regions would be asked to notify the Head Judge Coordinator so their availability could be reflected in staffing plans.

Core Head Judges

Under the proposal outlined in the documents, Core Head Judges would be paid $150 per shift, with round-trip travel and lodging booked and paid for by HYROX.

They would be required to arrive the day before an event and remain through the full competition schedule, including required briefings, walkthroughs, and daily huddles. Departure would be the day after the event or the night of the final competition day, depending on flight availability, travel arrangements, and authorization from the Head Judge Coordinator.

For events taking place across multiple weeks or weekends, each week or weekend would be treated as a separate event. Core Head Judges would not be required to work both.

Core Head Judges would officiate assigned stations, apply and document penalties, mentor Event Head Judges, provide real-time rules guidance, and rotate between stations or other roles as directed by the Sports Team or Head Judge Coordinator.

The documents state that Core Head Judges must have previously worked at least six HYROX Head Judge shifts and would be expected to attend a minimum of three events in their region per season. If the three-event minimum could not be met within a judge’s region, the Head Judge Coordinator would assign events based on availability.

Core Head Judges would report to the Regional Race Direction Manager and/or the on-site Head Judge Coordinator.

Event Head Judges

The proposed Event Head Judge role would pay $200 per shift. Travel and lodging would not be provided, meaning judges would be expected to be local or arrange and pay for their own travel to the venue.

The position would offer more flexibility. An Event Head Judge could work as little as one shift during an event or as many as one shift per day for every day of the event. Judges would be required to work the entirety of each confirmed shift, with partial shifts not permitted.

Event Head Judges would officiate their assigned stations, attend the briefing for each shift, apply and document penalties, and communicate rules questions or disputes to the on-site Core Head Judge or Head Judge Coordinator.

Event Head Judges would report to the on-site Core Head Judge and/or Head Judge Coordinator during their assigned shifts.

Complimentary Race Entries

Both positions could earn up to one complimentary race-entry code per event.

Core Head Judges could earn up to one code per event. Event Head Judges would need to complete at least two Head Judge shifts during the same event to qualify.

The proposed code would cover 100 percent of a singles entry or 50 percent of a doubles entry. It would be valid only for a race in the same country where it was earned, could not be combined with other discounts, and could only be applied to a new registration, not a ticket that had already been purchased.

If implemented as outlined in the documents, the structure would create two distinct paths within the Head Judge program: a traveling Core Head Judge group responsible for consistency across complete events and a flexible pool of local or regional Event Head Judges providing paid station coverage based on their availability.
