2018 Leipzig – October 20, 2018 – 1:01:51
In the first-ever HYROX race, Joshua Wichtrup took the victory and laid claim to the World Record. As to be expected when all athletes have no experience, the pacing was an issue in this first race. He came out hot and had a marked decline in his run pace. However, he was able to rally and closed with a 2:31 Lunge station. A solid finish on the wall balls established the World Record at 1:01:51. Wichtrup would go on to finish 18th at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
2018 Essen – November 10, 2018 – 1:00:22
Two races later, Lukas Storath ran nearly uncontested in Essen and despite a seven-minute gap to Wichtrup in second place he was able to nearly break the 60-minute barrier with a time of 1:00:22. He did this on the back of strong runs throughout and a first place finish in 7 of the 8 workout stations.
2018 Stuttgart- December 15, 2018 – 58:39
That new mark was again realized in only two races when Storath dropped the World Record significantly to a time of 58:39. This would be the final time the World Record was bested in the inaugural Hyrox Season and Storath would go on to become the first Hyrox Men’s World Champion.
2020 Chicago- January 25, 2020 – 57:34
The start to the 2019-2020 Hyrox Season featured a number of notable performances early in the season: Hunter’s first race in Miami (1:00:27), Tobias Lautwein going sub-60 in Essen (59:12), and Ryan Kent becoming the first sub-60 American in New York (59:14).
However, the World Record didn’t fall until Hunter Mcintyre ran in Chicago in the winter of 2020. He took the top place on every station for the day and in the end lowered the World Record by over a minute to a time of 57:34.
Shortly after the new world record was set, the world went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mass participation events were largely off the calendar. The 2020 World Championships were switched to a field of only 6 men on Assault Runners and the 2020-2021 season featured only 4 American events. It would be over two years before the World Record would change again.
2022 Bremen – March 19, 2022 – 57:30
Hunter’s World Record came close to falling early in the season in Manchester when Tim Wenisch ran 57:57. However, it would not be eclipsed until Tobias Lautwein shaved 4 seconds off of the World Record in Bremen finishing in a time of 57:30. This was in an effort in sharp contrast to Hunter’s previous world record. It was largely achieved through consistency across all 8 stations and runs at a measured pace.
2022 Maastricht- March 26, 2022 – 56:52
On the very next weekend, Tobias was able to once again set a World Record at the European Championships. This time by a much larger margin of 38 seconds, bringing it down to 56:52. In this race, his total station time was identical but he was able to significantly drop his Run and Rox Zone time.
2022 Dallas – April 9, 2022 – 55:09
After losing to Ryan Kent at the North American Championships in late January of 2022 and then losing his World Record in March, Hunter came in focused and ready to regain his spot at the top in Dallas. He came out fast on the Ski, stayed composed on the Sleds, and hammered the runs to drop the World Record by nearly two minutes to a time of 55:09. Tobias would only be the record holder for 21 days.
2023 Barcelona- March 18, 2023 – 54:07
After a brief retirement to pursue a paddling career, Hunter came back onto the Hyrox scene and quickly put any doubts about his fitness to rest. In his first race of the season, he established the current World Record with a 54:07 in Barcelona. This was largely on the back of an incredible improvement in his Sled Push/Pull total time. Going from a time of 6:40 in Dallas to 5:22 in Barcelona.
