HYROX Elite 15 Rules: Full Breakdown for 2025 World Championships

HYROX Elite 15 Rules: Full Breakdown for 2025 World Championships

HYROX has released its official athlete guide for the 2025 Elite 15 World Championship competitors in Chicago. Below is a full breakdown of the key sections, using the original HYROX wording, followed by a plain explanation of what it means. Some items are new, and some have not been seen before.

Turf Experience

“The Turf Experience is an exclusive, optional opportunity for E15 Singles athletes to familiarise themselves with the new HYROX x Centr Competition turf. This 30-minute session will allow athletes to try the Sled Push and Pull. Athletes are welcome to bring multiple pairs of shoes to test if desired.

Please note the following important rules that shall be strictly enforced:

– Only E15 Singles athletes are permitted to participate
– No other persons are allowed to attend the Turf Experience
– Photos, videos, or recordings of any kind are not permitted
– No resistance testing equipment is allowed during the session

Failure to adhere to these rules will result in the immediate conclusion of the Turf Experience for all athletes. We appreciate you not jeopardising the experience for your peers.”

What this means:
Only Elite 15 Singles athletes are allowed into this private session. No friends, no coaches, no content. HYROX wants athletes to focus on feel — not filming or friction data. Bring different shoes to test, but follow the rules or the session ends early for everyone.

Race Kit and Branding

“Option 1: Wear the provided HYROX Kit (PUMA Shirt with HYROX & Athletes name print, no further partner integration)
Option 2: Wear neutral Clothing (will be provided if necessary, Black Shirt with HYROX branding)

In general, competitors to HYROX partner brand categories (see below bullet points) are not to be worn during the recording of HYROX-owned content.

This means that, if you’re sponsored by any competitor brands in the categories below, please prepare to wear neutral clothes.

– Sports Apparel
– Sports Nutrition (all kinds)
– Energy Drink
– Fitness Equipment
– Watches/Timing Devices
– Race Kit & Accessories / Other Branded Items

You will be provided with an official race uniform by HYROX which you are asked to wear, at a minimum, during the official Walk-In to ensure a consistent look and feel for HYROX media productions.

Head Wear: (head bands, caps) are the athletes’ choice
Accessories: (wristbands, socks, shoes…) are the athletes’ choice but cannot include additional partner branding (beyond the standard apparel branding)
Bottoms: Potential individual bottoms cannot include additional partner branding (outside of apparel brand)
Tops: These cannot include additional partner branding (beyond the standard apparel branding)

IMPORTANT: Your final race uniforms/outfits need to be presented to and approved by either Mat Lock or Jakob Olsson. Misuse can lead to coverage with tape or in an extreme form of misuse DQ.”

What this means:
Athletes must wear the official PUMA HYROX shirt or the provided neutral shirt — no third-party sponsors showing on clothing. Shoes, hats, socks are up to you, but can’t show logos from brands that compete with HYROX sponsors. Everything needs to be approved in advance.

Sponsor Tattoos

“The below described Sponsor Body Tattoo locations are permitted:
– 1 x on each upper Arm (20 cm²)
– 1 x on Chest or Leg (32 cm²)
No other locations are permitted.

A measurement of square centimetres represents an area, calculated as the product of two perpendicular lengths in centimetres that, when multiplied, gives the total:
e.g. 20 = 5 cm by 4 cm or 10 cm by 2 cm
32 = 8 cm by 4 cm or 16 cm by 2 cm

There will be a Sponsor Tattoo check prior to the Walk-In.”

What this means:
You’re allowed one upper-arm sponsor tattoo per side, and either a leg or chest tattoo — not both. Sizes are restricted and placements will be checked. Anything outside the allowed zones will be removed or covered.

Lane and Equipment Assignment

“Each athlete will be assigned a lane/piece of equipment when entering the respective station. The lane/equipment assignment will be done by a Head Judge using the principle ‘first come, first served’.

Note: Athletes are NOT permitted to select their own piece of equipment/lane/wall ball station – a two minute penalty per infringement shall apply.”

What this means:
A Head Judge will assign you a station as you arrive — you can’t skip over or choose your own. If you try to pick your lane, it’s a two-minute penalty, no discussion.

Wall Ball Rep Tracking

“There will be digital targets on display that will show all your reps (including no reps). It is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure 100 reps are displayed on the digital target screen before moving to the finisher stage.”

What this means:
Watch the screen — not the judge. You must see the rep count hit 100 before you leave. If it shows less and you move on, that’s your mistake.

Protests and Challenges

“In the event an athlete wishes to challenge a race result, the following process must be followed:

Deadline For Submission
Challenges must be lodged within 60-minutes of the official final athlete finishing time of the race in question.

How To Submit A Challenge
All challenges must be submitted via email to: XXXX@hyrox.com
No other form of submission will be accepted.
Challenges submitted without clear supporting evidence will not be considered.

Grounds For Challenge
Race result challenges are only accepted in cases of:
– Alleged unsporting behaviour
– Alleged missing distance or repetitions
Movement standard breaches are not grounds for a race result challenge and will not be considered.

Investigation Process
If a valid challenge is received:
The athlete in question will be notified via email that an investigation is underway.
Their input will be requested as part of the investigation.
HYROX will have up to 48 hours to investigate and determine if a correction to the race results is necessary.

Outcome Communication
The findings of the investigation will be communicated via phone to the (directly) involved athletes in the first instance.
A written summary will then be provided via email.”

What this means:
You have one hour after the last finisher to protest a result. You must email with evidence (video or data). You can’t challenge a judge’s form call — only missed reps, distance, or unsporting behavior.

Drug Testing

WADA-compliant A and B sample containers used for HYROX drug testing

“As per the HYROX Anti-Doping Code (ADC), drug tests will be carried out in line with WADA guidelines.

HYROX will test 5 selected athletes from the attending Elite 15, the athletes will be notified immediately after finishing the race.

In the case you are selected, please understand that a test chaperone will be assigned to each associated athlete at the finisher stage. They are tasked to stay with their nominated athlete until the test has been conducted. It is the athlete’s responsibility to maintain continuity with their assigned chaperone, not the other way around.

If contact with the chaperone is broken, a case-by-case decision will be made by an Anti-Doping Commission representative as to whether the test is continued or considered a ‘missed test’ (which may count as a positive test).

In all cases, Athletes have the following entitlements:

The right to have a representative accompany them throughout the entire sample collection process, except when the Athlete is passing a urine sample, if the Athlete is a minor, requires an interpreter (in the case of deaf individuals, or has a disability)
The right to request a delay in the test for valid reasons e.g., medical attention, medal ceremony.
The right to record comments or concerns on the doping control form.

The exact test procedure will be communicated at the Elite Briefing.

Note 1: Each athlete being tested WILL require an official form of identity such as a passport or government-issued ID card.
Note 2: It is NOT permitted to take photographs or film inside the doping control station.”

What this means:
If you’re selected for drug testing, you’ll be met by a chaperone at the finish and must stay with them. Losing them could count as a failed test. Bring ID. No photos or video allowed.

Supplied Beverages

“Sealed bottles of water and unopened cans of Red Bull will be available in the Elite Lounge and doping test area.

Open cups of water and Red Bull will be available during the race, in the Roxzone.

Additionally, athletes can bring their own beverages, gels etc. to the Roxzone. These can be placed on a dedicated table close to the OUT arch.

Important

– You (the athlete) choose to consume the supplied drinks at your own risk
– The dedicated table close to the OUT arch is not supervised or monitored
– You (the athlete) choose to leave food or drinks at the dedicated table at your own risk
– In either case, you (the athlete) are responsible for what you consume, not HYROX”

What this means:
Red Bull and water will be provided, both sealed and open. You can bring your own nutrition, but it will sit unattended near the OUT arch. If anything gets moved or tampered with, it’s your responsibility.
