This weekend was the second Singapore HYROX race of the season being held as part of the Fitness and Wellness Expo.
In the Women’s Pro event, Ireland’s Maire McGinley took top spot although she didn’t have her own way throughout the race.
Heading out the burpees, Clare Cheung from Hong Kong had reduced the lead to less than 10 seconds. Aleksandra “Sasha” Vargin, Kimi Isom and Erg Army’s Jane Erbacher were also in pursuit.
Maire was able to extent her lead in the back half of the race, gaining 30 seconds each station to take her first Pro win. Clare’s chase gave her a well deserved second.
Third place went to Jane, who entered the wall balls in 5th place but was able to overtake Kimi and Sasha. Kimi and Sasha’s efforts were enough for AG wins.
In the Men’s race Gabe Heck continued to show why he remains one to watch in APAC. His speed and strength gave him a 2 minute lead in his wave coming out the Sled Pull which he was never in danger of losing.
In second place Anth Di Paulo made big strides since Sydney, knocking 2 minutes of his time despite being in a different wave from the front runners.
Phil Snowden completed the podium, Phil had a real battle on his hands in his wave, showing determination to overtake the pack on the lunges to cross the finish line second in his wave and take third overall.
A little over an hour later, Gabe headed out with his team mates to also take overall first in the relay.
Well done to all athletes and staff for a great event. We understand that the athletes really appreciated the air conditioning which was a welcome change from the heat in the stadium.
Attention now turns back to Australia with the Perth race the next on deck.
